ive never been to anything like it, i was so impressed, it was amazing work by everybody involved

if i wasn't doing visual merchandising, id love to be involved in something like wardrobe styling,

especially if it was for a tv show like skins

whether you love or hate the storylines (season 4 ending, im talking about you!), skins is always beautifully filmed with some stunning shots. wardrobe wise the fashion is spot-on and really adds to the individuality of each character. i just discovered the styling notes for season 6 and now im even more obsessed

yep im back to blogger but man, february has been mad-hectic

last week i had 2 days in barcelona for my brand's international merchandising meeting

airplanes, hotels, taxis, buses, conference rooms, rails of clothes, new season slideshows, presenting my exercise to the group(!), window gazing on portal d'angel, a 4am wakeup call and flying back home over a frozen europe.. it was intense!

either vienna or munich, the airports blended together after a while..

found these on ebay (each print is slightly different) and don't ask me why but i decided on a yellow one

when it arrived i was quite excited

until i realized that the positioning of the stars in the middle reminded me of something...

a day in the gardens: how to build a garden

beautiful sunny day yesterday, we went here:

a beautiful, beautiful new art space in the heart of nicosia, in the grounds of the old municipal gardens.

boyfriend designed the invitations & programme. i love that he's been getting projects like this,

it gives us the chance to see wonderful things and meet such interesting, creative people

the greenhouse was designed by respected architect neoptolemos michaelides in the late 60s

it was intended as nursery for exotic plants to be cultivated for the gardens (which he also redesigned)

but it fell into disrepair and was forgotten for years

the visual arts association and curator elena parpa lovingly restored the area, giving it a new purpose

yesterday was its launch exhibition: "how to build a garden"

afterwards we took a walk in the gardens (see some of the exotic plants there?)

i used to play here as a child but i haven't been for years

as most people, i had forgotten that these gardens even existed

i was stunned at how lush and green everything is,

and why it wasn't packed with people on a sunny saturday

in any other capital city in europe it would be such an attraction

the gardens themselves have a fascinating history:

the plot of land was bought at the price of 63 british pounds in 1902 when cyprus was still a british colony

and slowly began to be cultivated to a garden

i hope that life comes back here, i will definitely be visiting again

my best friend and i have made ourselves a promise for spring-summer picnics and i can't wait

he's doing a series of skull portraits and is allowing me to give you guys a sneak peak

this one's a bit special, can you guess why? she's a bit modern compared to the other old-fashioned skeletons

the story of cliff and janet

its been cold and rainy, perfect curling-up-with-a-movie weather

so here's some googled screenshots from one of my fave movies: cameron crowe's "singles" from way back in 1992 (no way is it twenty years old!??) its set around the grunge scene in 90s seattle, and as such features some epic fashion as you shall see. there are some other storylines but i always forcus on cliff (matt dillon) and janet (bridget fonda)

cliff is a musician. he believes he's greatly talented. he's not

janet is a waitress, his semi-girlfriend and his biggest fan

cliff doesnt really care about anything except his band

and while acknowledging that janet is crazy about him, still sees other people

eventually janet realises that she deserves better

and stops fawning over him

cliff is puzzled

at first he just misses her adoration but then..

he makes some disastrous attempts to win her back

in fantastic outfits like layered tshirts and shorts over leggings (with boots and socks)

and a leather jacket over more tiedye and a pair of what one blogger called 'guatemalan friendship pants'

(best description i ever heard)

i won't spoil the ending but it is happy

this scene is not actually in the movie (i don't know if it was a cut scene or what?)

but i added it because they just look great together

so now you just have to fast-forward through the other story of unlikable steve and neurotic linda

i don't understand why cliff and janet were the secondary story, they were much more fun &interesting

so last weekend we went to a well-advertised warehouse party

everyone was so excited about it

it was a pretty cool set-up

but the music just killed me - and not in a good way

apparently a lot of people who heard the music from outside didn't even bother coming in

last week i went to a fashion performance. i had a bad view resulting in terrible photos but the designer lent me some pictures to use
the show was called saffron, the designer is anna apostolou. someone to watch for sure

each seat had these little packages on them

the models were dancers and made the clothes move in weird and wonderful ways

at the show they were wearing masks, looking very mysterious with flowing shapes and long arms

oh dear, at least we have the lookbook!

really like the makeup and hair in the lookbook

the models are very mediterranean-looking and i love it

my friends had an exhibition on wednesday

a whole section on mermaids, and how they would adapt to today's reality

but holy damn, it just keeps getting better and stronger with each issue!

the last two covers were designed by boyfriend and our friend

boyfriend did the "fresh career starts" november cover (it actually does have a fuzzy effect)

a kit of courage, braveness, planning, commitment, confidence, optimism

and our friend did the current december issue cover for "religion and faith"

based on christian orthodox religious iconography (greek speakers will get the 'agios evrosios' wordplay)

she said she'd seen some "really cool safety-pin ones" - KERCHINGG!!

as i mentioned a few posts ago, ive been working my ass off so i decided i could treat myself

went rock t-shirt shopping with my best friend. she bought ac/dc and the beatles, i bought this

i got medium because they didn't have large but its too small so im going back to exchange for x-large

i love that starhead logo more than i can explain. ive seen it in a tattoo, it looks amazing

lastly this caught my eye. i needed something bright, red, shiny and extra-glossy for my lips

finally reached the 400th post!

watching my stats lately and my readership has gone up, nice surprise! i never really advertised my blog to people in my 'real life' until recently and im always happily surprised to meet or hear about people who have come across it one way or another. hello to everyone new.

thought id celebrate 400 by doing a recap for you guys

one: i am the area visual merchandiser for a well-known brand of young women's fashion (won't get into which, but im sure you can guess by the outfit posts). i coordinate 6 stores over cyprus so every day im in a different store. i arrange the new collections, train staff, update on fashion trends, advise on mannequin dressing and follow the sales with my manager making sure that our stores are working in the best possible way. previous jobs were writing for a music magazine and managing a hair salon, they were also pretty amazing!

two: i am a gemini and display most of the gemini character traits. im happiest when stimulated so give me magazines, books, tv shows, movies, music, internet and i can occupy myself for hours, days, weeks.. my brain has a huge capacity for storing random facts &information and i will often bring these up in conversation. i get depressed when i don't socialize and have no people interaction but im also shy (those gemini contradictions) so im sometimes quiet in a crowd, just taking it all in

three: for a number of years i was well-known for my ever-changing hair, especially when i worked at the hair salon. fashion-wise there's not much i won't try ("never say never") but lately i feel most comfortable in a big tshirt, skinny pants and some high shoes. during the daytime gotta be practical for running around the shops so im usually more excited for night-time outfits. since i took my current job ive become a lot more confident in my outfits, when i was younger i never felt like i could rock the looks that i liked

four: the cyprus thing. living in such a small place definitely has its drawbacks but lately ive been realizing that there is a lot of talent around here, and a lot of interesting stuff going on. so im taking advantage of every facebook invitation, every flyer and every new introduction to explore my lil' island

aaaand a more few things that happened in november

road trips to other towns for work - enjoying the scenery on the way to the shop

history of cyprus

visited istoria, a really cool vintage/clothing/art/furniture concept store

the event was called istoria vs the scavengers and featured redesigned/recycled furniture

and then we went out into the backyard for a bit of dancing (lots of dimly-lit parties lately ha)

this cranky old service elevator in the back of one of our stores scares and fascinates me,

a couple of people have been stuck in it, but not me. yet

we had our first big winter storms

and i snapped some mad lightning pics on the highway

we took part in a fashion show. this cyan blue total look was the result of an

unfortunate miscommunication between stylist and store manager

so i restyled all the outfits at the last minute

bf's also been working hard

this is a preview of his latest drawing that will be unveiled tomorrow at a group exhibition

well... i was also watching another pair on nastygal... a pair of kelsi daggers...

and then they went on special offer!

...omg, ponyskin leopard print platform wedge...

in the end i got these at a third of the price of the topshops, yay budgetista!

moral of the story: ALWAYS check the sale sections. stores (both online and on the street) have such a fast turnover these days

that they are always looking to offload older stock at frickin' cheap prices

i had one of those on saturday

halfway down an old street there are some beautiful renovated buildings which have attracted

a group of young artistic &musical people (my best friend used to live there!)

and all the neighbours got together and decided to throw a "parkin' party" in their courtyard

i had been thinking it might be a bit lame but i ended up having the best time ive had in ages!

so much more people than i expected!

been thinking about this a lot and when i got dressed in this outfitit really hit me:

i don't want to dress head-to-toe in high street anymore

since i work in shops and malls every day its definitely easy to pick things up while im there

but then i end up dressing head-to-toe in (mostly) one brand and i don't like it

can't say ive ever bumped into anyone wearing the same outfit but lately something is not clicking right..

i shall have to explore other options. does anyone else think about stuff like this?

recently saw this 2006 shane meadows film and got overloaded with inspiration

its based on the filmmaker's experiences growing up in 80s england

its about a young boy, shaun

who runs into a gang on skinheads, led by woody

possibly the nicest skin you'd ever want to meet

woody's beautiful girlfriend lol (lorraine)

its really a great project, i was too young to live through this period of uk history

but i loved everything about the movie: the clothes, the hair, the homemade tattoos, the music

the official trailer, showing a darker side to the story

there was a 4-part follow-up series shown in the uk in 2010: "this is england 86" which takes place 3-4 years after the events of the film. there was a departure from the skinheads theme for the series, as the characters get older and move on, but its still worth a watch. there is also a new 3-part series "this is england 88" which will be shown in the uk in december 2011. i love the idea of following the characters' lives (and fashion and hair and society) and i really can't wait to see whats happening in '88 - and possibly even '90, if the rumours are to be believed..
